These are offered in Biomedical Science, Cell & Molecular Biosciences, Conservation Biology, Ecological Restoration, Ecology and Biodiversity, Marine Biology or as a generic graduate diploma in science with no specialisation. The entry requirements are more flexible than those for the Honours and Masters degrees. They are available for graduates who have completed a degree and who may wish to gain a qualification in a new field.

It is also possible to undertake the course without a degree, subject to the provision of evidence of some other suitable qualification or experience. In the first instance you should contact the graduate coordinator in the subject area you are interested in, or the Associate Dean (students) of the Science Faculty, Shona deSain. The graduate diploma usually takes 1 year of full time study.

GradDipBmedSc
A project (BMSC 889); at least 90 points taken from courses numbered 200-579 offered for the BBmedSc or BBmedSc(Hons) degrees (although substitution of up to 48 points from other programmes may be approved) of which at least 48 points must be at 300-level or above and at least 30 points must be at 400-level or above.

Ecology and Biodiversity for GradDipSc
A project (EBIO 889); at least 116 points taken from courses numbered 200-579 offered for the BSc, BSc(Hons) or MSc degrees of which at least 72 points must be at 300-level or above (although substitution of up to 48 points from other programmes may be approved) and must include one approved ECOL or BIOL course numbered 400-488.

Marine Biology for GradDipSc
A project (BMAR 889); at least 116 points taken from courses numbered 200-579 offered for the BSc, BSc(Hons) or MSc degrees of which at least 72 points must be at 300-level or above (although substitution of up to 48 points from other programmes may be approved) and must include one approved ECOL or BIOL course numbered 400-488.

Cell & Molecular Bioscience for GradDipSc
A project (CBIO 889); at least 116 points taken from courses numbered 200-579 offered for the BSc, BSc(Hons) or MSc degrees of which at least 72 points must be at 300-level or above (although substitution of up to 48 points from other programmes may be approved) and must include one approved BIOL course numbered 400-488.

Conservation Biology for GradDipSc
A project (BIOL or CONB 889); at least 116 points taken from courses numbered 200-579 offered for the BSc, BSc(Hons) or MSc degrees of which at least 72 points must be at 300-level or above and must include one approved BIOL course numbered 400-488.

Ecological Restoration for GradDipSc
This requires the student to complete ERES 525 and ERES 526 and two other 30 point papers from an approved combination from 400 and 500 level papers offered in the School of Biological Sciences, ENVI 502-506, or another course approved by the Head of School of Biological Sciences. The elective course may also be chosen from one of the conservation courses offered at Massey University. The Diploma may be completed in one year of full-time study as an internal student or may be spread over a longer period of part-time study.
Entry requirements:  There are no minimum requirements for acceptance. However, prior study or appropriate knowledge of Ecology, Zoology or Botany, or appropriate knowledge in Environmental Sciences or Natural Resource Management equivalent to 200-level study is highly recommended.

Graduate Diplomas in Science with no specified major
At least 116 points taken from courses numbered 200-579 offered for the BSc, BSc(Hons) or MSc degrees of which at least 72 points must be at 300-level or above, although substitution of up to 48 points from other programmes may be approved.

The significant difference between doing a GradDipSc with no specified major and one of the named specialisations above is that there is no requirement to take a 400-level course or to carry out a research project, although both options are permitted.
