The prerequisite for both the honours and masters programmes is a BBMedSc degree or equivalent in the chosen field. Our minimum requirement for acceptance is an average equivalent to the VUW "B+" grade in relevant final year papers. This requirement is not absolute, and higher grades may be required from some applicants, due to variations in marking schemes between institutions, and the relevance of undergraduate papers taken. Master of Biomedical Science with Honours [MBmedSc(Hons)] The degree is normally undertaken over 2 years (Part I and II). Part I involves 3 courses worth equal marks and a research preparation course, part II consists of a research thesis. The research components are worth 60% of the total. The degree is awarded with or without honours. You must have a thesis topic and an agreed supervisor before you can enroll. Master of Biomedical Science [MBmedSc] The prerequisite is a BBmedSc(Hons) or equivalent graduate degree/postgraduate diploma in the chosen field. The degree is entirely made up of a thesis, which normally takes at least one year. The degree is awarded with distinction, merit, or a pass. You must have a thesis topic and an agreed supervisor before you can enroll. Since these programmes include significant points values to be obtained from undergraduate courses at 200- and 300-level, you should consult the School of Biological Sciences Undergraduate Prospectus and/or the University Course Catalogue for details of suitable courses. The programme consist of a project; at least 90 points taken from courses numbered 200-579 offered for the BBmedSc or BBmedSc(Hons) degrees (although substitution of up to 48 points from other programmes may be approved) of which at least 48 points must be at 300-level or above and at least 30 points must be at 400-level or above.
