The Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting is primarily of interest to students who wish to meet the academic requirements for membership of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA). The programme is taken after a BCA (or equivalent) has been completed. It is a further year of full-time study (or equivalent part-time), and students choose from the undergraduate courses offered in the BCA degree. Combined with the required BCA degree, this is a four-year programme. NZICA modified their academic requirements effective 1 January 2007. These changes have been incorporated into the requirements for the Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting (2007). For those who began their study before 2007 they can choose to complete under either the new or old rules.
