The Master of Education (and incorporated postgraduate certificate and diploma) aims to encourage students to develop advanced knowledge and critical analysis skills in the educational arena. While students can specialise in a specific sub-field of Education, they are required to develop their research capabilities in a more general way. Students are encouraged to develop a cross-disciplinary approach to their studies while developing and applying theoretical and grounded perspectives for a wide range of issues and contexts in Education. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS One of the following criteria: - Successful completion of a bachelor's degree with a minimum B average in the final year, including some papers at Level 6 or above in Education or a related Social Science discipline (e.g. Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, Economics, etc)
- A professional qualification in a relevant discipline, recognised by the university as being equivalent to at least a three-year undergraduate degree
- Evidence of professional experience deemed by the programme Board of Studies to be equivalent to an undergraduate degree or recognised professional qualification
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS Applicants for whom English or Māori is not their first language are required to provide proof of an acceptable pass/grade gained in an accepted English language test. THE KEY SKILLS YOU WILL ACQUIRE Graduates of this programme develop broad range of research and applied skills together with sound analytical and critical thinking skills. They will be capable of demonstrating high levels of professionalism, independence and leadership in their chosen field. In addition to academic and professional competencies, graduates will also have further developed their personal capabilities. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES This programme of study provides career opportunities for those who are engaged in or wish to pursue leadership in Education. (This includes early years education, compulsory education, adult and tertiary education and non-formal education domains). Career enrichment is available in the areas of educational leadership and administration, curriculum development, lifelong learning, research and professional expertise. Public sector opportunities include local and national government agencies, human services or organisations and community based education programmes.
