This program will expand your understanding of the societies, history, politics, international relations and economies of the East and Southeast Asian region, and a number of the region's more important nations. In particular, the program sets regional changes in Asia within the emergence of a global economy and political system. Students will develop their knowledge of the social sciences and history through their application to the study of Asia. This is a unique program that combines theoretical depth with regional expertise, and provides students with a comparative understanding of the economically dynamic and strategically significant region that is East and Southeast Asia. The Europe Australia Asia-Pacific Nexus Exchange Program provides a valuable experience for students. Attendance The Graduate Certificate in Asian Studies is offered full-time and part-time on campus at the Nathan campus. You may choose to study courses at other campuses if or where the program structure allows. As a full-time student, you will generally attend 8-12 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the semester. As a part-time student, you will generally attend 4-6 hours of scheduled classes per week. Classes may be scheduled during the day and evening throughout the week. Sufficient classes will be scheduled from 5 p.m. to accommodate part-time students unavailable to attend classes during the day. You will be classed as a part-time student if you are enrolled in less than 30 credit points per semester. International students must maintain a full-time study load. Career opportunities On completion of the Graduate Certificate program, graduates will be able to advance their employment in a range of organisations and occupations related to Asian studies and international relations. These include policy, consultancy and management positions in the following areas: - government, especially in the areas of diplomacy, strategic analysis, development of trade relations, and international cultural contacts
- business with international links
- non-governmental organisations, including international aid and environmental organisations
- news and media organisations.
