Attendance

The Graduate Certificate in Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is offered part-time and full-time on campus at the Gold Coast campus.

In Semester 1, the Graduate Certificate in Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is offered part-time and three of the four courses are offered (7211EPS, 7212EPS and 7214EPS). Two of these courses are web dependent and each requires an introductory on campus lecture at the beginning of the semester and on-campus attendance on 2 Saturdays during the semester. The other course requires three hours per week on campus attendance.

In Semester 2, the Graduate Certificate in Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is offered part-time and three of the four courses are offered (7212EPS, 7213EPS and 7214EPS). One of these courses is web dependent and requires an introductory on campus lecture at the beginning of the semester and on-campus attendance on 2 Saturdays during the semester. The other two courses each require three hours per week on campus attendance.

In Semester 1 and Semester 2 courses are deliberately offered in the evenings or as weekend workshops.

Weekend Classes: The Graduate Certificate in Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) includes some core courses, which may be scheduled on Saturdays between the hours of 9am and 5pm, and it is expected that if you enrol in these courses you will be available to attend.

Summer Semester: Summer semester is the period between the end of Semester Two and the beginning of Semester One of the following year (November-February). Summer semester courses are delivered in intensive blocks (less than the normal 13-week semester), starting and concluding at varying times from 21 November to 17 February.

In Summer Semester the Graduate Certificate in Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is offered full-time or part-time and all four courses are offered. Attendance is required at a three-week intensive Summer School. In Summer Semester, two of the courses are web dependent and each requires 2 days (14 hours) on-campus attendance per web-dependant course. The other two courses require 5 days each (35 hours) of on-campus attendance per on-campus course. Summer Semester classes are scheduled so that students can take them during a holiday period.

Work Experience/Placement: In the Graduate Certificate in Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) as part of the course 7213EPS offered in Semester 2 and Summer Semester you are required to undertake unpaid teaching practice, which requires part-time attendance at an approved educational institution.
