| This program is one of few postgraduate programs which give you the opportunity to study in a Commonwealth Supported place. If you are eligible for a Commonwealth Supported place, the Australian Government contributes substantially to the cost of this program. You will, however, be required to make a contribution to the cost of your education. If you are ineligible for a Commonwealth Supported place, you are required to pay full tuition fees. | |||
About this program
This Gold Coast program will not be available for International students.
The desire to teach the next generation is something that can happen after a number of years in another career or even just after completing a degree in something else. You would not want to start all over again, so this program has been specially designed for graduates from a non-education background wishing to undergo professional preparation in order to teach middle years (Years 6 to 9) and senior years (Years 10 to 12) in school settings - generally referred to as secondary school teaching.
It covers the theory and practice of teaching, concentrating on the characteristics of learners and teachers in middle and senior secondary schooling environments and the social and educational contexts of education. The program includes education studies, curriculum studies in nominated teaching areas and professional experience in middle years (Years 6 to 9) and senior years (Years 10 to 12) secondary school settings.
Students will be required to select from the following middle and senior school teaching areas (please check the availability of the teaching areas at the specific campus of study):
- Biology
- Business Education
- Chemistry
- Computer Education
- Drama
- English
- Film and Media (senior only)
- Health and Physical Education
- Instrumental Music
- Integrated Sciences
- Languages Other Than English (LOTE)
- Legal Studies (senior only)
- Mathematics
- Music
- Physics
- Social Science (History or Geography)
- Visual Art
Professional recognition
As a graduate, you will be eligible to apply for registration with the Queensland College of Teachers. This qualification is recognised nationally and internationally.
