The program will train future Dental Prosthetists to be competent in all areas of removable dental prosthetics and significantly contribute to the future of the profession. Attendance The Master of Dental Technology in Prosthetics is offered full-time and part-time on campus. The courses in this program are exclusively Oral Health and are offered at the Centre for Medicine and Oral Health (Gold Coast campus). As a full-time student, you will generally attend up to 20 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the semester. As a part-time student, you will generally attend up to 10 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the semester. Classes may be scheduled during the day and evening throughout the week. Due to the need for students to develop complex clinical and technical skills throughout this program, extensive hands-on exposure to clinical/laboratory environments is required. As a result, some courses may extend beyond the standard 13-week teaching semester (i.e. commencing earlier and extending later than the standard 13-week semester). Students are advised that the timetables for these courses will not exceed 21 teaching weeks per semester (i.e. the academic year will not exceed 42 teaching weeks in duration). Exact dates over which these extended courses will run will be published on a semester-by-semester basis within the University Timetable. Professional recognition Australian Students The program has been accredited by the Dental Technicians and Dental Prosthetists Board and graduates will be eligible for professional registration as Dental Prosthetists in Queensland, other Australian States and Territories and New Zealand under Mutual Recognition legislation. International Students Graduates who are registered Dental Technicians in Australia will be eligible for professional registration as Dental Prosthetists in Queensland, other Australian States and Territories and New Zealand under Mutual Recognition legislation. There are a large number of countries that recognise Dental Prosthetists including (but not limited to) the United States, Canada and several countries in Europe. Career opportunities Graduates will have knowledge of the relevant biomedical and oral health sciences and will have developed sufficient clinical skills to apply for registration as a Dental Prosthetist or Clinical Dental Technician in Queensland, other Australian States and Territories and New Zealand. International students should be aware that there are a large number of countries that recognise Dental Prosthetists including (but not limited to) the United States, Canada and several countries in Europe.
