COURSE DESCRIPTION
Biology as an area of study involves unravelling the mysteries of life in all its forms. It is an important area of basic science, as well as making significant contributions to applied areas such as agriculture, biotechnology, conservation, ecology, horticulture and medical science.

First year: A broad introduction to the specialist areas of biology at first year. A strong foundation is provided through studies in:
- Animal diversity
- Organisation and function of cells
- Genetics and evolution
- Plant science
- Chemistry
- Elective units from elsewhere in the university.

Students select majors in later years from:
- Biochemistry
- Botany
- Cell and Molecular Biology
- Ecology and Conservation
- Genetics
- Human Biology
- Microbiology
- Zoology.

There is a strong hands-on emphasis in teaching and learning, with laboratory classes, field trips, and the use of our on-campus Wildlife Sanctuary, greenhouses and Animal House.

The Faculty offers a range of competitive industry experience options through our Industry Cadetship and Integrated Business Learning programs and these vary by course and campus of enrolment.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Successful completion of English for Further Studies Advanced Stage 5B certificate at undergraduate (EFS5 (60%) UG) level conducted by La Trobe University Language Centre; or

IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or

TOEFL Paper-based Test: a minimum score of 550 with a score of 5 or better in the Test of Written English; or

TOEFL Computer-based Test: a minimum score of 213 with a score of 5 in essay writing; or

TOEFL Internet-based Test: a minimum score of 80 with no individual score less than 20; or

Satisfactory completion of an English language subject at Year 12 or equivalent level. This must have been completed in the last two years and at an academic level acceptable to the University; or

Approved equivalent.
