Why choose this program?

Biomedical science is the application of new scientific knowledge to the practice of medicine and health care.

This is a challenging program and, as a pre-medical degree, provides most appropriate training for entry to postgraduate medicine. You will develop knowledge and skills in the modern biosciences and clinical sciences, and their application to medicine, biomedical research and health care services.

In year one, you will be introduced to the basic sciences underpinning biomedical science.

In years two and three, your core studies are complemented by the opportunity to receive laboratory skills training and undertake additional courses.

Griffith's Bachelor of Biomedical Science could be your first step to our innovative graduate-entry medical degree.

Professional recognition

Graduates are eligible to join the Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Australian Society for Medical Research, Australian Society for Microbiology, Australian Society for Human Biology and the Australian and New Zealand Association for Cell Biology.

Career opportunities

As a biomedical scientist you will find employment in hospitals, health departments, biomedical research institutes, university and government research organisations and in the pharmaceutical, diagnostic, biotechnology and other health-related industries.

On completion, you will be well placed to apply for Griffith's graduate entry medical program, Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery.

You may also choose to enrol in one of Griffith's postgraduate coursework masters programs, that provide professional training for careers such as clinical biochemist, clinical physiologist, clinical microbiologist, genetic counsellor, forensic scientist, dietician or biomedical research scientist. The linking of these professional training programs with the undergraduate degree is unique to Griffith University and provides excellent career outcomes.
