Why choose this program?
As a blend of digital technologies and creative arts, this program provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles and practices of multimedia design, production, management and evaluation, and focuses on the integration of theory and technology and their practical application by teams for industry projects. You will undertake a project for an external client, giving you the opportunity to develop business and management skills, analyse complex computer-based multimedia system problems, design, implement, install and test a high quality solution and report on the completed work.
In years two and three, you will be introduced to the aesthetic, cultural and technical foundations of multimedia and their application to creating, designing, implementing, producing, critically assessing and documenting large-scale multimedia systems.

As part of their studies, multimedia students will undertake projects for real industry clients and through industry placements gain workplace experience prior to graduation. In preparation for employment, multimedia students also have the opportunity to develop their portfolio in their chosen major area of study which are showcased and critiqued by industry representatives.
*Interactive Entertainment
From Semester I/2008, Interactive Entertainment is offered as an award major. Students completing this award major will graduate with a Bachelor of Multimedia (Interactive Entertainment). The major looks at games development and interactive entertainment as a growing industry with strong demand for graduates with technical and creative skills necessary in this competitive area. With many courses taught by practicing industry professionals, studies include practical games design and development, digital media, sound production, programming, project management. Advanced multimedia courses prepare you for typical workplace scenarios building strong technical skills for the creative use of technology. All students complete projects for external clients, develop a portfolio, and participate in work integrated learning through industry placements providing many graduates with a direct entry into employment.
Attendance
The Bachelor of Multimedia is offered full-time on-campus at the Gold Coast campus.
As a full-time student you will generally attend 10-15 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the semester (it may be varied in accordance with the requirement of the subjects taken). Classes may be scheduled during the day and evening throughout the week.
Students may take a reduced study load. You will be classed as a part-time student if you enrol in less than 30 credit points per semester. International students must maintain a full-time study load.
Career opportunities
The multimedia industry is rapidly growing in Australia and as a result there is an increasing demand for graduates. Depending on the major area of study, career opportunities exist in areas such as:
- Web development and site maintenance, information and content management
- Computer games programming and animation
- Digital film and TV production (including special effects creation and script development)
- Advertising and/or marketing material development and management
- Development of interactive educational and training products
- Design, implementation, testing and usability engineering of interactive products (internet, CD/DVD, interactive kiosks etc)
- Graphic visual media design and development
- Sound production
Interactive Entertainment
The interactive entertainment industries are experiencing rapid growth both domestically and internationally and need graduates with product development skills such as those provided by this program. A variety of career opportunities exist in areas such as games programming and animation , games design and testing, and the development of a variety of other interactive products for educational and training use in corporate, film and TV and government environments.
Griffith multimedia graduates are working for companies like Photon, based at Movie World, creating special effects for blockbuster films.
