The major in Māori Media is offered in association with the School of Communication Studies and integrates te reo Māori with leading edge media technologies. Multimedia weaves together sound, graphics, animation and video to educate, inform, or simply tell a story interactively. The programme places an emphasis on the various design and production skills required to communicate effectively. Students are encouraged to express themselves using digital technologies and are given hands-on experience in the world of media and broadcasting.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

SPECIAL ADMISSION

Applicants over 20 years of age who do not hold a university entrance qualification (such as NCEA or CIE above) may qualify for university entrance via Special Admission.

 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Applicants for whom English or Maori is not their first language are required to provide proof of an acceptable pass/grade gained in an accepted English language test. 

 

FURTHER STUDIES

On completion you will have the opportunity to pursue study towards higher level qualifications:

  • Master of Arts in Māori Development or Youth Development
  • Other Postgraduate courses at AUT University

 

THE KEY SKILLS YOU WILL ACQUIRE

Students will develop specialist skills in digital imaging, digital video and sound editing, multimedia authoring, animation and web page construction. State of the art facilities are available, including access to television and radio production studios. Students will also have the option to specialise in composition using the latest digital music software. The programme places an emphasis on drawing together the various design and production skills required to communicate effectively.
