Overview Landscapes are of immense cultural, spiritual, aesthetic and economic value. The discipline of landscape architecture sits at the forefront of rising global interest in the environment, community making, and the quality of urban living. Landscape architects are empowered with the ability to propose new ways with which to perceive, engage and design these environments. As facilitators of change, landscape architects draw together diverse disciplinary interests in the creation of landscapes that are culturally, economically, socially and environmentally responsive. Landscape Architecture is rapidly becoming a pivotal discipline within the field of the Built Environment. The 4 year professionally accredited BDes degree at Victoria University Wellington will equip you for practice in a wide variety of contexts across the world. This course’s key focus on design studio provides a conduit through which to explore and synthesise the role of technology, communication, history and theory within the discipline. Successive studios will develop your understanding of disciplinary issues relating to place, scale, time, strategy and synthesis. The course structure takes advantage of our position within the School of Architecture and Victoria University, providing a valuable opportunity to engage with students, scholars and professionals from a wide range of disciplines. This design culture promotes the skills and values necessary for operating within the environments of growing complexity that are the core of landscape architecture practice.
