About this program

This program is scheduled to commence from Semester 1/2010.

This program is designed to equip individuals to live and work in a society where the number of people over the age of 60 is expected to triple by the year 2050. The majority of these older people will continue to live and be active in their communities and to engage with professionals from many disciplines.

Whether you work directly with older people such as in the case of human service or social workers or whether your involvement is more indirect such as a town planner, accountant, or public servant this program has much to offer. Courses such as Policy and Practice in an Ageing Society, Health Ageing and Disability, Working in Organisations incorporate the theoretical, analytical and practical knowledge and skills required to work with older people across a variety of settings both locally and internationally. This specialist knowledge will equip you to engage with many of the interesting and challenging opportunities for working with and for older people in the future.

Attendance

The Graduate Certificate in Social Gerontology is offered part-time only (20CP per semester over two semesters), comprising 30CP of core courses and a 10CP listed elective offered in off-campus, online mode.

This program can be completed in one year (20CP per semester) or two years (10CP per semester) and mid-year entry is also available.

  • Australian Association of Gerontology
