The Graduate Certificate in Sports Coaching is designed to give practising and aspiring coaches the opportunity to enhance their development in the area of high performance coaching. It provides a pathway to the Master of Sports Coaching for candidates who do not qualify for direct entry.

Completion of the Graduate Certificate in Sports Coaching will allow students to enrol in the Master of Sports Coaching [55086]. Its primary purpose is to prepare students for further postgraduate studies. Students will graduate with a foundation level of knowledge and be equipped to handle the more advanced studies encountered in the Masters program.

The challenge of producing excellence in sport is now well recognised as requiring highly skilled and qualified coaches who can successfully blend science and practice. Additionally, coaches require skills in leadership and management to coordinate a large and complex group of people who contribute to the development of athletes and teams.

The program involves a multidisciplinary partnership with the School of Physiotherapy and Exercise Science (PES), the School of Education and Professional Studies (EPS, Gold Coast) and the Griffith Business School (GBS). PES will deliver courses related to the scientific aspects of sports coaching, whilst EPS, Gold Coast and the Department of Tourism, Leisure, Hotel and Sport Management (HSL) will offer courses focusing on the development of relevant leadership and management skills respectively.

The Graduate Certificate in Sports Coaching offers both entry and exit points.
