Why choose this course? This conservatory style acting course is designed to develop your individual acting ability. Public performance seasons in your second and third years will provide opportunities to work with professional directors and production designers. Your film work will be under the guidance of professional directors and production crew.
Your third year culminates in QUT Acting Graduates Industry Days in Sydney and Brisbane ? your opportunity to showcase your film and stage work to directors, management agents and casting agents. Course structure Three years of intense training and performing will provide you with a disciplined framework through which to explore the depth of your own creativity. QUT offers both a strong focus on acting for the screen as well as traditional conservatory-based actor training for the stage.
The professional challenges actors meet are changing all the time. We aim to be active and boundary-pushing in our response to those challenges. You'll graduate with an understanding of the industry, ready to identify your niche within it. Career Outcomes Graduates work as actors for stage, film and television. They have won leading roles in national and state theatre companies, television series and mini-series and feature films. Others successfully self-produce opportunities in film and theatre. Successful graduates Gyton Grantley gained critical acclaim for his role as Carl Williams in Channel Nine's Underbelly, in which Ryan Johnson also stars. Ryan has also acted in episodes of CSI: New York, Home and Away, and All Saints.
2006 graduates Joshua Helman and Kathryn Beck spent much of 2007 on the set of major productions. Joshua will soon be seen in Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg's production The Pacific. Kathryn Beck has recently been seen in ABC mini-series East of Everything.
Conrad Coleby currently plays Ronan Harris in Home and Away. His career includes achievements in stage and screen, including All Saints and productions for Queensland Theatre Company and Sydney Theatre Company.
Wayne Blair was the first indigenous actor to play the lead role in Othello for the Bell Shakespeare Company?s 2007 production, and has since appeared in and directed cult broadway play Jesus Hopped the A Train at the Belvoir Theatre in Sydney.
Matt Zeremes regularly collaborates with fellow QUT actors. He appeared with Ryan Johnson in independent film All My Friends Are Leaving Brisbane, co-produced, directed and starred in Burke and Wills with Oliver Torr, and he and Guy Edmonds received rave reviews for Holding the Man at Belvoir Theatre in Sydney and Brisbane's Powerhouse. Course Structure In order to complete this course, students must undertake two Creative Industries Foundation units, a maximum of 168 credit points of discipline or specified units relating to the chosen major and 96 credit points of Complementary Studies made up of either Advanced Acting Practice, a Second Major, Minors or elective units.
