The Graduate Diploma in International Affairs (GDIA) is designed for those who are seeking academic preparation for a career in international affairs with an Asia-Pacific focus, whether in diplomacy, the civil service, teaching, journalism, or business. The GDIA also provides a stepping-stone to the Master of International Affairs or Master of Arts (International Relations) on attainment of a pass with merit (distinction average). Admission Requirements Applicants for the GDIA should normally have obtained a 'very good' Bachelor degree. Although a degree in the social sciences would be an advantage, degrees in other areas will be considered. As a guide, 'very good' normally refers to an A/B+ average and above, or distinction average and above. Degree Structure Candidates are required to complete: One compulsory 12-unit core course: Semester 1 - INTR8036: World Politics And a second 12-unit core course from: Semester 1 - INTR8048: International Political Economy 2 Semester 2 - INTR8012: The Evolution of the International System 2 Semester 2 - INTR8031: Global Governance 2 Semester 2 - INTR8047: Global Security 2 Semester 2 - INTR8061: Global Civil Society and the Role of NGOs2 And an additional four 6-unit electives, which may not include the 6-unit analogue of a course taken for 12 units. Students who wish to transfer from GDIA to MAIR or MIA will receive 24 units of advance standing towards the new degree.
