Program Code: IMUR Program Level: Postgraduate SATAC code: 4CM004 Home Campus: City East Program Length (in EFTSL): 1.5 AimThe program is designed to provide advanced coursework leading to a professionally-recognised qualification in Urban and Regional Planning. Entry requirementsApplicants should normally hold a degree in any discipline with a credit average or above or equivalent, or should have completed the Graduate Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning. For international applicants for whom English is a second language, the minimum English language requirements are: International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Minimum score of 6.0 in Reading and Writing subscores and minimum overall score of 6.0 obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA; or
Successful completion of a tertiary qualification at diploma level or above completed in Australia within the last two years; or
Successful completion of two or more years of tertiary study at diploma level or above conducted and completed in English within the last five years in a country in which: - English is an official language; or
- English is commonly used, as determined by the University.
Where the study in English was more than five years ago, this requirement may be satisfied by subsequent and recent work experience of two or more years duration in a setting where English is the language of business subject to satisfactory evidence as determined by the Program Director. Content/structureThe Master of Urban and Regional Planning requires the completion of courses totalling 54 units. Courses are listed in the program schedule below. Professional recognitionThe Master of Urban and Regional Planning is recognised by the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) and will provide full exemption from the educational requirements for membership of the Institute. Holding a professional accredited qualification enables graduates to apply for corporate membership of PIA and subsequently undertake training to gain status as a Professional Certified Planner. Currently, UniSA is the only PIA accredited education provider of urban and regional planning in South Australia. Graduates will be required to undertake continuing professional development which is offered by PIA.

Notes- The Master of Urban and Regional Planning is available full-time over 1.5 or 2 academic years and part-time over three academic years.
- Students are required to take 2 elective courses with a value of 9 units. Electives are listed in the Schedule. Not all electives will necessarily be available in any one calendar year and the decision on whether or not to offer a particular elective will depend on student demand. Students may be allowed to substitute electives from other university programs with the approval of the Program Director.
- Students enrolling in Contemporary Planning Theory ARCH 5017 should normally have completed Introduction to Regional and Urban Planning ARCH 5011 first
- Planning Project ARCH 5031 can now be taken in either Study Period 2 or Study Period 5.
