Aim

The program prepares students for careers in a wide range of resource management agencies and industries and equips them with the knowledge and skills necessary to take a leadership role and responsibility in those organisations.

Entry requirements

Successful completion of a recognised bachelor degree, or an equivalent qualification. Applicants who have completed the Graduate Certificate in Environmental Management and Sustainability will also be eligible for entry.

 

For international applicants for whom English is a second language, the minimum English language requirements are:

International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Minimum score of 6.0 in Reading and Writing subscores and minimum overall score of 6.0 obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA; or
Successful completion of a tertiary qualification at diploma level or above completed in Australia within the last two years; or
Successful completion of two or more years of tertiary study at diploma level or above conducted and completed in English within the last five years in a country in which:

  • English is an official language; or
  • English is commonly used, as determined by the University.

Where the study in English was more than five years ago, this requirement may be satisfied by subsequent and recent work experience of two or more years duration in a setting where English is the language of business subject to satisfactory evidence as determined by the Program Director.

 

Content/structure

The Masters program requires the completion of 54 units of courses selected from one of the streams, Natural Resource Management, Geospatial Science, Water Management or Urban Ecology. The program comprises of 4 core courses (18 units) and 4 elective stream courses (18 units) plus Environment Research Projects 1 & 2, or the program of study may consist of 4 core courses (18 units) and 8 elective stream courses (36 units).

Fee information

Fees for International students: $AU 20,000 per 1.0 EFTSL for students commencing in 2010.
Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units.
Fees for International students are determined one year in advance and are subject to variation.

  1. Credit will not normally be granted for more than one third of the total units of the program.

 

Notes

  1. Not all courses will be available in any one year.
  2. The 54 units of study may consist of either 4 core x 4.5 units, 18 units of elective stream courses and Environmental Research Project 1 and Environmental Research Project 2, or (12 x 4.5 units) consisting of 4 core courses (18 units), and 8 elective stream courses (36 units). 
  3. Students undertaking Environmental Research Projects 1 & 2 will normally enrol in these courses in their second year of study. Research topics will normally be identified earlier. Environmental Research Project 1 is only available in SP2.
  4. Students taking the Natural Resource Management stream, may select any combination of electives.
  5. Students are required to complete (36 units) eight courses of study in their choice of stream (Natural Resource Management, Geospatial Science, Water Management or Urban Ecology). Individual programs of study to satisfy the overall formal study requirements of 54 units may be constructed by choice of other courses with the approval of the Program Director.
  6. This course is taught in intensive mode during July and August and includes a 6 day field trip.
