Program Code: LGPR Program Level: Postgraduate SATAC code: 4GD065 Home Campus: Mawson Lakes Program Length (in EFTSL): 1 AimTo develop graduates who are able to apply modern and advanced professional information technology skills such as computer and network security, data and web design, object-oriented and distributed systems design and modelling, in a contemporary business management context across a range of industries and applications. Entry requirementsApplicants would normally have completed a bachelor degree in Computer and Information Science or Information Technology, or equivalent qualification. Applicants must have passed coursework covering at least 6 areas which contain the following content (or have equivalent industrial experience) - Intermediate programming in Java, C or C++
- Data structures in Java, C, or C++
- Database Technology - SQL, ER modelling or UML
- Systems analysis and design
- Basic networking skills
- Computer systems architecture
- Systems development and project management methods
- Information Management and database design
- Use of Information Systems in contemporary organisations
- Strategic Management of Information Systems
International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Minimum score of 6.0 in Reading and Writing subscores and minimum overall score of 6.0 obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA; or Successful completion of a tertiary qualification at diploma level or above completed in Australia within the last two years; or Successful completion of two or more years of tertiary study at diploma level or above conducted and completed in English within the last five years in a country in which: - English is an official language; or
- English is commonly used, as determined by the University.
Where the study in English was more than five years ago, this requirement may be satisfied by subsequent and recent work experience of two or more years duration in a setting where English is the language of business subject to satisfactory evidence as determined by the Program Director. Content/structureStudents must complete, subject to prerequisites, a total of 36 units. Professional recognitionThis program has been accredited by the Australian Computer Society. Fee informationFees for International students: $AU 19,500 per 1.0 EFTSL for students commencing in 2010. Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units. Notes- Up to 9 units of elective courses may be chosen from Group 1. The remaining elective courses are to be chosen from Group 2 or 3. Elective course outside these groups may be approved by the Program Director.
- Students may not select both C++ and Quality Engineering (COMP 4023) and Java as Second Language (COMP 3007) as electives in the program.
Students can choose to follow one of the recommended tracks: IS track or IT track.
IT Track: - core (4.5 units)
- max 9 units from Group 1
- minimum of 18 units from Group 2
The rest of the courses can be from Group 2 or from Group 3 IS Track: - core (4.5 units)
- max 9 units from Group 1
- minimum of 18 units from Group 3
The rest of the courses can be from Group 2 or from Group 3 4. Elective courses are offered subject to student demand and staff availability. Postgraduate courses offered within the University of South Australia or from other universities may be substituted for the elective course(s) with permission of the Program Director.
