Program Code: ICMR Program Level: Postgraduate SATAC code: 4GC038 Home Campus: City East Program Length (in EFTSL): 0.5 AimThe program is designed to provide medical radiation professionals with the mechanism to develop new skills and knowledge in specialist areas of diagnostic radiography, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy or medical sonography. Entry requirementsApplicants are normally required to be eligible for accreditation as a diagnostic radiographer, nuclear medicine technologist, radiation therapist or medical sonographer by the relevant accrediting body and have completed appropriate postgraduate experience. Overseas applicants may be admitted on the basis of an approved equivalent qualification and experience.
Applicants with other qualifications and appropriate demonstrated experience equivalent to the above may be considered for entry. English language entry requirements In addition, International students who speak English as a foreign language must satisfy the following: International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Overall score of 6.5 obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA; OR Successful completion of a tertiary qualification at diploma level or above completed in Australia within the last two years; OR Successful completion of at least two years of tertiary study at diploma level or above conducted and completed in English within the last five years in a country in which English is an official language as determined by the University. Where the study in English was more than five years ago, this requirement may be satisfied by subsequent and recent work experience of at least two years duration in a setting where English is the language of business subject to satisfactory evidence as determined by the University. Content/structureTo qualify for the award, students must complete courses totalling 18 units from those listed in the schedule below. Courses required to complete the Graduate Certificate will generally be prescribed to complement the area of professional study desired. Students wishing to complete specialist stream in Breast Imaging should select this option and complete the prescribed program. Fee informationFees for International students: $AU 7,875 per 0.5 EFTSL for students commencing in 2010. Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units. Rules- The program is offered on a full-time basis over one half of a year or part-time equivalent (subject to prerequisites and course availability), and is offered only by external delivery.
- Credit for previous studies or exemption from work within courses may be granted in accordance with University policy. Maximum credit allowed is normally one third of the total units of the program.
Notes- Credit will be given for the courses Ultrasound Physics and Instrumentation 1 and Ultrasound Physics and Instrumentation 2 if the student can provide proof of completion of the Diploma of Medical Ultrasonography Part 1, awarded by the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine, within 5 years prior to enrolment in the program.
- Ultrasound Physics and Instrumentation 2 may be studied in the same study period as the course Breast Sonography if it has not been previously completed.
- Students may enrol in the course Mammography as internal or external, but all students are required to attend an intensive one-week workshop on campus.
- Knowledge of general medical sonography scanning principles will be assumed. Co-requisite is that the student should be an accredited medical sonographer and working in an environment where diagnostic medical sonography is performed.
