Program Code: DMSD Program Level: Postgraduate SATAC code: 4CM011 Home Campus: City West Program Length (in EFTSL): 2 AimThe aim of the program is to provide a cross-disciplinary postgraduate setting in which a deeper theoretical and practical knowledge of sustainable design can be developed, with half the teaching and learning over the first three semesters being conducted in the studio environment. Entry requirementsApplicants should normally hold at least a three-year completed undergraduate degree or recognised equivalent in a related design discipline from a recognised higher education institution or equivalent. Alternatively entry requirements would be satisfied by applicants who have completed a Graduate Diploma in a related design discipline from a recognised higher education institution. Design disciplines may include: Architecture, Interior Architecture, Industrial Design, Furniture Design, Civil or Structural Engineering, Planning and Urban Design. Admission will be based on academic merit. English language entry requirements For international applicants for whom English is a second language, the minimum English language requirements are: International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Minimum score of 6.0 in Reading and Writing subscores and minimum overall score of 6.5 obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA; or
Successful completion of a tertiary qualification at diploma level or above completed in Australia within the last two years; or
Successful completion of two or more years of tertiary study at diploma level or above conducted and completed in English within the last five years in a country in which: - English is an official language; or
- English is commonly used, as determined by the University.
Where the study in English was more than five years ago, this requirement may be satisfied by subsequent and recent work experience of two or more years duration in a setting where English is the language of business subject to satisfactory evidence as determined by the Program Director. Content/structureThe Master of Sustainable Design subject areas include Design, Technology and Cultural Studies, focusing on their relationship with Sustainability. These areas are envisioned to be required as indispensable elements for the design of a physical sustainable environment. The two year program is structured around four streams that complement and inform each other. These vertical streams comprise Design Studio, Theory, Research and Electives. Students are required to pass 72 units in order to complete the program. Fee informationFees for International students: $AU 16,600 per 1.0 EFTSL for students commencing in 2010. Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units. Fees for International students are determined one year in advance and are subject to variation. Notes- Students are required to take two elective courses with a value of 9 units, with approval of the Program Director. Some recommended electives are listed below. Any electives with prerequisites need to be negotiated with the specific school.
