Program Code: LBST Program Level: Undergraduate SATAC code: 434711 Home Campus: Mawson Lakes Program Length (in EFTSL): 3 AimThe Bachelor of Sustainable Environments has been designed to meet the needs of government, business and industry, to supply graduates with a broad knowledge of environmental sustainability and provide specialisations in one of four awards. Entry requirementsApplicants are required to have one of the following qualifications: - Qualifies for the SACE; and
- Recorded achievement is five SACE subjects taken at Stage 2 level; and
- Included at least four Stage 2 subjects which are approved Higher Education Selection Subjects (HESS) and
- Obtained a competitive TER;
Alternatively, the minimum educational requirements may be met by those who have one to the following qualifications: - Completed the equivalent secondary education qualifications as required for university entry under SACE and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
- Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma, obtaining a minimum score of 24 points and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
- Completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
- Completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
- Completed an award from TAFE or from another registered training organisation at AQF Certificate IV or above and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
- Qualified for Special Entry and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
- Completed the University Foundation Studies program.
For international applicants for whom English is a second language, the minimum English language requirements are: International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Obtain a minimum overall score of 6.0 obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA; or
Successful completion of a secondary qualification in Australia within the last two years; or Successful completion of at least one year of tertiary study in Australia within the last two years; or Successful completion of one year of secondary or tertiary study conducted and completed in English within the last two years in a country in which: - English is an official language; or
- English is commonly used, as determined by the University.
Content/structureStudents are required to complete 108 units of study for the successful completion of the program. The program consists of a first year which is common to all awards. This lays a foundation to the following two years in which one of four awards may be further pursued. Students may elect to change awards at the end of year one. The awards are Geospatial Information Systems, Geographical and Earth Systems, Environmental Protection and Management, Biodiversity and Park Management. HonoursStudents completing this degree with an average grade of credit or above are eligible to apply for admission to the Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours) (Biodiversity, Environmental and Park Management) degree offered by the School of Natural and Built Environments. Fee informationFees for International students: $AU 19,500 per 1.0 EFTSL for students commencing in 2010. Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units. Notes- The program is offered on a three-year full-time basis. The program can also be taken on a part-time basis.
- Credit will not be granted for more than 66% of the total units of the program.

- Some electives will only be offered if sufficient enrolments are received, so may not be available in all years.
- There may be limited numbers of enrolment places in some field-based electives.
- Prerequisites may apply to some electives
- Additional electives are available from the Schools of Mathematics and Statistics, Pharmacy and Medical Sciences and International Business, following approval of the Program Director
- A number of courses include a field component (which will vary in length and distance travelled and may incur additional charges)
- These courses are normally held in Study Period 1 (Summer School).
- The course Landcare and Restoration and Ecotourism, Sustainable Environments and Community are offered every alternate year, (available even years only).
- The course Fire and Ecosystems is offered every alternate year, (every odd years only).
