Program Code: LBCV Program Level: Undergraduate SATAC code: 434032 Home Campus: Mawson Lakes Program Length (in EFTSL): 3 AimThe program is designed to prepare the graduate for a career as a professional pilot and meets the academic requirements of the relevant professional bodies for recognition as an air pilot. Entry requirementsApplicants are required to have one of the following qualifications: - Qualified for the SACE; and
- Recorded achievement in five SACE subjects taken at Stage 2 level; and
- Included at least four Stage 2 subjects which are approved Higher Education Selection Subjects (HESS).
Note that: - A knowledge of SACE Stage 2 Mathematical Studies, Specialist Mathematics and Physics will be assumed.
Alternatively, the minimum educational requirements may be met by those who have one of the following qualifications: - Completed the equivalent secondary education qualifications as required for university entry under SACE;
- Completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution;
- Completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level;
- Completed a recognised diploma or associate diploma from TAFE or Certificate IV level course;
- Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma;
- Qualified for Special Entry
- Completed University Foundation Studies program.
For international applicants for whom English is a second language, the minimum English language requirements are: International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Obtain a minimum overall score of 6.0 obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA; or
Successful completion of a secondary qualification in Australia within the last two years; or Successful completion of at least one year of tertiary study in Australia within the last two years; or Successful completion of one year of secondary or tertiary study conducted and completed in English within the last two years in a country in which: - English is an official language; or
- English is commonly used, as determined by the University.
Content/structureThe degree requires completion of courses totalling 108 units. Fee informationFees for International students: $AU 19,000 per 1.0 EFTSL for students commencing in 2010. Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units. Fees for International students are determined one year in advance and are subject to variation. Notes- Students seeking part-time study should discuss their study program with the Program Director prior to enrolment.
- Australian Government policy requires that flying training not be a compulsory component of the degree program.
- If students elect to undertake integrated flying training, then:
- Australian Government legislation requires the passing of a medical examination as a prerequisite to flight training
- the cost of the flight training must be paid by the student
- although the normal study period is 13 weeks, students may be required to attend during the breaks for flight training
- students who undertake flight training are required to satisfy the standard of dress and behaviour prescribed by the Flying School.
- Students who withdraw from the degree and have successfully completed the first two years may apply for the award of Diploma of Applied Science (Civil Aviation).
- BUGE elective is a free elective to be selected from any discipline area approved as contrasting with the discipline category of the professional program.
