Program Code: DBAE Program Level: Undergraduate SATAC code: 424441 Home Campus: City West Program Length (in EFTSL): 3 AimThe program aims to introduce and develop the skills and knowledge necessary for contemporary architectural practice. The program focuses on the relationship between architecture, communication, technology, culture and the environment through theoretical and practical application in the design studio. Entry requirementsApplicants are required to have one of the following qualifications: Qualified for the SACE: - recorded achievement in five SACE subjects taken at Stage 2 level; and
- included at least four Stage 2 subjects which are approved Higher Education Selection Subjects (HESS); and
- obtained a competitive TER;
Completed the equivalent secondary education qualifications as required for University entry under SACE and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements; Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements; Completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements; Completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements; Completed an award from TAFE or from another registered training organisation at AQF Certificate IV or above and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements; Qualified for Special Entry and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements; Completed the University Foundation Studies program. English language entry requirements For international applicants for whom English is a second language, the minimum English language requirements are: International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Minimum score of 6.0 in Reading and Writing subscores and minimum overall score of 6.0 obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA; or
Successful completion of a secondary qualification in Australia within the last two years; or
Successful completion of at least one year of tertiary study in Australia within the last two years; or
Successful completion of one year of secondary or tertiary study conducted and completed in English within the last two years in a country in which: - English is an official language; or
- English is commonly used, as determined by the University.
Content/structureThe Bachelor of Architectural Studies is a three year full time or part-time equivalent program comprising introductory and foundational studies in the field of Architecture. Year 1 and Year 2 introduces students to basic skills and concepts in design theory, creativity, environmental awareness, communications and technology. Year 3 develops competence in core subject streams. Courses are arranged according to Subject Areas related to the relevant AACA National Competency Standards in Architecture and the RAIA Education Policy Performance Criteria. The program requires completion of courses comprising 108 units. Professional recognitionThe Bachelor of Architectural Studies is a pre-professional program recognised by the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA) and accredited by the Architects Board of South Australia. Students in the program are eligible for student membership of the RAIA. The program provides graduates with the necessary competencies and knowledge required to apply for entry into the Master of Architecture program. The Master of Architecture program is accredited by the Architects Board of South Australia, endorsing the architecture qualifications of graduates required for registration as an architect. Fee informationFees for International students: $AU 19,900 per 1.0 EFTSL for students commencing in 2010. Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units. RulesWithin a year students may choose to vary the sequence of study but are not permitted to take two Design Studios or Architectural Design Studios concurrently. - Students must normally complete the degree within 6 study periods of full time study (or its equivalent of part-time study) from the date of their initial enrolment, not including any periods of approved leave of absence or enforced suspension.
Notes- Electives are designed to extend and expand students' intellectual and professional abilities in core and cognate areas of the curriculum and to provide scope for individual development in particular areas of professional and academic interest. A selection of electives will be offered each year, depending on staff availability and student demand. Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Architectural Studies may select from the following list of school-wide electives, or alternatively may select a BUGE elective offered outside of the school with approval from the Program Director: Architecture:

ARCH 2023 Independent Elective - Each design studio will require students to demonstrate an ability to integrate all other subject areas of the program into the design process.
