Aim

To prepare graduates for a professional level career in property valuation, management, development, investment, research and sales.

Entry requirements

Applicants are required to have:

  • Qualified for the SACE; and
  • Recorded achievement in five SACE subjects taken at Stage 2 level; and
  • Included at least four Stage 2 subjects which are approved Higher Education Selection Subjects (HESS);
  • Obtained a competitive TER.

 Alternatively, the minimum educational requirements may be met by those who have:

  • Completed the equivalent secondary education qualifications as required for university entry under SACE;
  • Completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution;
  • Completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level;
  • Completed a recognised diploma or advanced diploma from TAFE;
  • Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma;
  • Completed the University Foundation Studies program with a competitive GPA;
  • Qualified for Special Entry.

 

English language entry requirements

For international applicants for whom English is a second language, the minimum English language requirements are:

International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic): Minimum score of 6.0 in Reading and Writing sub scores and minimum overall score of 6.0 obtained within the last two years or corresponding results from an equivalent test such as TOEFL or the appropriate Academic English language level delivered at CELUSA;

OR

Successful completion of a secondary qualification in Australia within the last two years;

OR

Successful completion of at least one year of tertiary study in Australia within the last two years;

OR

Successful completion of one year of secondary or tertiary study conducted and completed in English within the last two years in a country in which:

  • English is an official language; or
  • English is commonly used, as determined by the University.

 

Content/structure

Students undertake the division core courses all the required courses in Property and appropriate electives. The program requires completion of courses totalling 108 units.

Professional recognition

Graduates who complete the program are eligible for Graduate Membership of the Australian Property Institute. If graduates subsequently complete two years of supervised valuation experience under a Certified Practising Valuer of the Australian Property Institute then graduates become eligible to sit an Australian Property Institute oral examination for elevation to Associate Member of the Australian Property Institute with Certified Practising Valuer status.

Graduates upon completion of the program are also eligible to act as a real estate salesperson and can apply for membership of the Real Estate Institute of South Australia.

 

Fee information

Fees for International students: $AU 18,880 per 1.0 EFTSL for students commencing in 2010.
Fees are calculated on a per Unit basis with 1.0 EFTSL = 36 Units.
Fees for International students are determined one year in advance and are subject to variation.

Rules

This program comprises:

  • a division core of eight courses;
  • one Broadening Undergraduate Education course from a contrasting discipline;
  • two business electives which may be used for a minor;
  • thirteen property related courses.

     

    Notes

    1. All Division core courses will be offered in both Study Period 2 and Study Period 5.

      The Division core comprises:

    2. Students taking a double degree may complete the courses Statistics for Business (MATH 1052) and Forecasting and Business Analysis (ECON 2007) in place of these two courses where necessary.

    3. Students undertaking a Property Marketing Minor or a double degree with Bachelor of Management (Marketing) may take the course Market Research (MARK 2020) in place of this course.

    4. Students who have completed the Bachelor of Business (Property) degree may undertake the postgraduate course Real Estate Business and Marketing Management G (BUSS5223) in order to meet the educational requirements for registration as a Land Agent in South Australia. This postgraduate course can be taken as either a non award postgraduate course or as part of a Graduate Certificate in Property and will only be offered subject to demand, and may be offered externally only, or as an intensive short course.

    5. Students who achieve a grade lower than Pass Level 2 (P2) in the following courses will not receive professional recognitition and will not be eligible for the professional membership/accreditation with the Australian Property Institute (as of November 2005).

      Therefore to meet the professional accreditation requirements set by the Australian Property Institute TP's and CP's are not available in these courses.

    6. Students seeking professional recognition with the Australian Property Institute are required to study the course Construction 1 (CIVE 1001) or an equivalent course from the Division of Information Technology, Engineering and the Environment.

    7. Electives must be selected from 2nd and 3rd year courses offered by the Division of Business and can be used to complete one of the following minors:
