Course Description

The Bachelor of Social Science course provides students with the theoretical insights and practical competencies that will enable them to play a creative role in a variety of public and community-based settings. The resources of contemporary psychology and sociology provide crucial theory and practices that enhance the quality of human life and enrich our understanding of the human person. The course offers the opportunity for dialogue between those fields leading to professional competence in the human services sector. The course aims to:

1. prepare graduates who are committed to the highest ethical standards in their dealings with clients, colleagues and the public;
2. induct students into their academic disciplines relevant to the study of Sociology and/or Psychology or Behavioural Science;
3. foster in students a sense of the importance of community service and a willingness to participate in public debates relevant to social, psychological or theological concerns within the Australian society;
4. demonstrate an ability to work in interdisciplinary teams

Professional Recognition

Qld only: Graduates from the Behavioural Science/Counselling combination majors will be eligible to apply for associate membership of the Queensland Counsellors Association and membership of the Australian Association of Pastoral Counsellors.
