Program OverviewUnleash your creative side with a Diploma of Visual Arts from Sunshine Coast TAFE. Students can choose between a focus on Ceramics or Painting & Drawing
Focus on Ceramics Mould your artistic dreams into reality with a Diploma of Visual Arts - Ceramics. This course produces graduates able to create unique artworks in ceramics and/or mixed media. The diploma may also foster independence and self-reliance for those wishing to freelance or become self employed
Focus on Fine Arts Explore your artistic side with a Diploma of Visual Arts - Fine Arts. You will receive professional level training in visual arts, majoring in areas such as painting and drawing, with associated study in art issues and theories.
This program is delivered at Sunshine Coast TAFEs new Noosa campus. Opened in 2005 the Noosa campus is a purpose build facility focusing on the Arts. The Centre has its own library and a diversity variety of equipment and excellent display area. Sunshine Coast TAFEs architectural award facility is truly a unique learning environment.
About your program of studyThe fact that the theoretical component of this course begins with the study of modernism and post-modernism is testament to its current and contemporary direction. It aims not only to provide knowledge of materials, methods and techniques, but also encourages, through exploration, experimentation and research, the development of personal philosophy and concepts.
Entry RequirementsEquivalent of Australian Year 12 or Non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies. A folio is required for admission to this course. Please contact the International Student Office for further information.
Academic RequirementsTAFE Queensland requires proficiency in the English language before you can begin formal studies. This is determined by one of the following prerequisites:- - International English Language Testing System IELTS academic module score of 5.5 with no individual score less than 5
- Test of English as a Foreign Language TOEFL - score of 530 PBT or 197 CBT
- Successful completion of an acceptable formal course where the medium of instruction was English. This does not include ELICOS
- Completion of Stage 2 minimum Direct English Entry Program DEEP - University of the Sunshine Coast
- Swedish students - V VG or MVG in English A & English B on your School Leaving Certificate
Additional RequirementsA range of generic materials will be supplied. Students will however need to provide their own specialised materials or additional materials for larger pieces if undertaking projects outside the specifications of this course.
What career options will it give me?This program may lead to self-employment as an artist visual artist in eg. in computer/digital art multimedia design animation photography illustration pre-press graphic design printing or employment in art establishments such as art galleries or into higher level studies. Studio Potter, Ceramic Artist, Sculptor and other related art, or to higher level studies.
Can I go on to further related courses?Sunshine Coast Institute of TAFE offers no further studies in this field.
AssessmentAssessment is geared across several areas. Practical, written and verbal assessment make up the major competencies however attendance, general attitude and the ability to maintain a clean and tidy workplace are also taken into account when being assessed.
Recognition of Prior LearningIndividuals may receive credit for their knowledge and skills through recognition of prior learning RPL upon completion of the RPL process. This process is undertaken once an applicant has been offered and accepted a place in the program.
Assessment may include skills and achievements from:
- Work experience, paid and unpaid
- Life experience, for example leisure pursuits or voluntary work
- Previous study, formal or informal training and education. For example, industry training, school, college or adult education classes
In order to grant RPL an assessor must be confident that candidates are currently competent. Evidence used for assessment may take a variety of forms and could include certification references from past employers work samples testimonials from clients and challenge testing.
