The Graduate Diploma in Communication and Public Relations is an opportunity for graduates to turn their knowledge into a successful career. Students are encouraged to grow their own skills and knowledge, filling in gaps and adding depth from the public relations body of knowledge. The diploma is a one-year, full time programme, or two to three years part time, and is based on the Bachelor of Communication Studies Communication Management/PR curriculum.
The programme emphasises five broad concepts:
- The research framework for public relations
- Public opinion and public policy formation
- Communication planning and project co-ordination
- Professional standards and ethics
- Client relationship management and management counselling

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- In order to be admitted to a graduate diploma, applicants shall normally have completed the requirements of one of the following: a three-year qualification from a New Zealand tertiary institution or equivalent, or significant relevant professional experience

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants for whom English or Māori is not their first language are required to provide proof of an acceptable pass/grade gained in an accepted English language test.

The core subjects reflect both the traditional and new career paths in the public relations industry. They include marketing communications, corporate communication, human resources communication and strategy. Other topics include issues management, fundraising, lobbying and investor relations.
