The Master of Arts is a programme of advanced study and research, which is normally undertaken over two years of full time study or part time over a maximum of five years. The qualification is structured to include both research methodology and coursework papers, followed either by a full year thesis, or the option to pursue a site-based research project and dissertation. The programme has been designed with a clear focus on creating graduates who are both academically and practically grounded and who are capable of making a difference in their communities.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• In order to be admitted to a masters degree, applicants shall normally have completed the requirements of one of the following in a relevant field from a New Zealand tertiary institution or equivalent: a bachelors degree with honours; a graduate diploma; an undergraduate degree; a professional qualification in a relevant discipline, recognised by the University as being equivalent to at least a three-year undergraduate degree; evidence of professional experience deemed by the Programme Board of Studies to be equivalent to an undergraduate degree or recognised professional qualification
• Applicants are normally expected to have completed the admission qualification to a merit standard as specified in the programme schedule.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Applicants for whom English or Maori is not their first language are required to provide proof of an acceptable pass/grade gained in an accepted English language test.
