The new postgraduate Public Health programme was developed following demand from the public health workforce and its leaders for postgraduate opportunities based on community health development principles. These principles emphasise understanding and action on the social, economic, cultural and other societal structural determinants of health; a focus on creating conditions for healthy individual and community function and participation; and a commitment to principles of equity, social justice, social inclusion and community participation.
AUT’s postgraduate Public Health programme addresses the need to strengthen practice and research expertise in the health promotion and community health development sectors of the public health workforce. It will appeal to those currently in this workforce who want to further their professional education, and those wishing to move into this area of research and practice.
