This programme is designed for health professionals and volunteers whose work requires a detailed understanding of human experience and behaviour. The Graduate Diploma in Psychosocial Studies is the first stage of AUT University’s integrated psychotherapy programme that leads to qualification as a beginning psychotherapist. Graduates who complete the Master of Health Science in Psychotherapy can apply for provisional membership of the New Zealand Association of Psychotherapists.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Undergraduate degree, preferably in an associated area, or its equivalent
- Preference for relevant work or voluntary experience in the people helping field
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants for whom English or Māori is not their first language are required to provide proof of an acceptable pass/grade gained in an accepted English language test.
THE KEY SKILLS YOU WILL ACQUIRE
The programme will provide students with the theory and foundation skills of psychotherapy including the understanding of human experience and human behaviour. There is an emphasis on selfawareness and students learn to understand their own processes of interaction and to develop effective communication skills along with an emphasis on experiential learning.
