This masters programme aims to equip literacy educators with the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to address the diverse challenges of teaching literacies in New Zealand in the 21st century.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- A three-year bachelors degree or the equivalent and one of:
(a) a year of advanced study in adult literacy and/or numeracy education or a relevant field leading to the award of a bachelors honours degree, a postgraduate diploma or an equivalent professional qualification;
(b) evidence of professional experience adult literacy and/or numeracy education or deemed by the University to be equivalent to one year of advanced study in a relevant field; (c) a graduate diploma in a relevant field.
OR
- A four-year bachelors degree in a relevant field.
In addition to the above requirements, an applicant shall provide evidence of at least one year of further professional experience in adult literacy and/or numeracy education or a relevant field deemed suitable by the Board of Studies for the degree.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants for whom English or Māori is not their first language are required to provide proof of an acceptable pass/grade gained in an accepted English language test.

Graduates will possess advanced professional skills in adult literacy and numeracy education that will enhance their employment prospects and allow them not only to engage with literacy and numeracy learners but also in the training of literacy and numeracy practitioners.
FURTHER STUDIES
Although this is a terminal degree graduates may also be eligible to enrol in the AUT Master of Philosophy and pursue research interests in their chosen area.
