Learn the science behind the food we eat, and how it has a fundamental effect on everyone’s quality of life. The basic principles of microbiology and chemistry are covered to give an understanding of food product development and food safety. Analysis of food, food chemistry, food microbiology, HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point), sensory evaluation, food packaging and legal issues around food are covered. ENTRY REQUIREMENT - University Entrance (UE) is the minimum entry requirement and science subjects are useful but not required.
- Preferred subjects at Level 3 on entry: Biology, Chemistry, Statistics and Modelling.
THE KEY SKILLS YOU WILL ACQUIRE You will acquire a broad understanding of Food Science used in New Zealand industry along with knowledge of one or more supporting fields. You will also have practical laboratory skills and you will be skilled in report writing, presentations and statistical data analysis.
