Golf is a multi-million dollar industry that encompasses player management, event management, training and coaching. With a career as a golf coach you will ultimately help those who desire to improve their playing ability. The skills you gain will give you the ability to get the best out of yourself and others.
During your time at AUT University you will learn about exercise science, event management, professional development, skill analysis, coaching practice, and sports psychology, all of which will help you develop your career as a golf coach.
Beginners to Golf and/or to English can commence their study with the year long Certificate in Sport & Recreation - specialising in golf coaching. On the completion of this programme those students who achieve an IELTS score of 5.5 or its equivalent, are eligible to enter the Diploma in Sport and Recreation.

Gulf Harbour Country Club
Students will become members of the Gulf Harbour Country Club; New Zealand's premier international golf course, host of the 1998 World Cup and 2005 and 2006 New Zealand Open golf tournaments. During the programme students will be coached at the Gulf Harbour Country Club twice a week by experienced New Zealand PGA golf professionals. The Club is about 40 minutes drive from the AUT North Shore Campus. Students can book to have a round of golf at any time without any extra charge at this facility.
AUT Swing Clinic
A new 8 bay swing clinic is located behind the AUT Sport & Fitness Centre. Full biomechanical analysis of your golf swings with report and follow up with a golf professional is available and gives you an opportunity to practice your swing and improve your handicap.
AUT Sport & Fitness Centre
The AUT Sport & Fitness Centre is a state-of-the-art facility which incorporates:
- Weight and fitness studio
- Large multi sports stadium with Olympic standard floor
- Human performance laboratory
- Strength testing laboratory
- Dance studio
- Seminar rooms
- Other services available within the AUT Sport & Fitness Centre include: physiotherapy clinic, sports medicine, sports nutrition services and café.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
English Language to IELTS (academic module) 4.5 overall (with no band less than 4.0)
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants for whom English or Māori is not their first language are required to provide proof of an acceptable pass/grade gained in an accepted English language test.
