Why choose this program? This program provides the strong foundation in the physical, biomedical and psychological sciences that you'll need to become an exercise specialist, or for more in-depth studies in exercise, sport, rehabilitation and health maintenance. Teaching focuses on practice and problem-solving, so that you can readily apply your knowledge and skills. Particular attention is given to the role of exercise in rehabilitation. Attendance The Bachelor of Exercise Science is offered full-time on campus at the Gold Coast campus. As a full-time student, you will generally attend 16-22 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the semester. Classes may be scheduled during the day and evening throughout the week. In the Bachelor of Exercise Science, you must maintain a full-time study load. If you have reasons why you cannot maintain enrolment in 40 credit points per semester, you must seek approval from the Program Convenor to take a reduced study load. Career opportunities On graduation, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to work in health, exercise, rehabilitation and sport. Your options include cardiac technician, exercise specialist, medical sales, rehabilitation manager, respiratory scientist/technician, sleep technologist, and trainee sonographer. Study pathways Bachelor of Exercise Science/Graduate Diploma of Education - Secondary From 2008, students who complete this Exercise Science program can then undertake the Graduate Diploma of Education - Secondary program at either the Gold Coast or Mt Gravatt campus. Students in this Exercise Science program are required to undertake content studies in two teaching areas. In the fourth year, students can continue to study for the Graduate Diploma of Education - Secondary where they will be required to select the Health and Physical Education teaching area in the middle and senior school and a second teaching area on the basis of content studies from their Bachelor of Exercise Science degree. The Graduate Diploma program covers the theory and practice of teaching, concentrating on the characteristics of learners and teachers and the social and educational contexts of education. This program includes education studies, curriculum studies in nominated teaching areas and professional experience in Years 6 to 9 (middle years) and senior secondary school settings. The combination of both programs provides professional preparation for teaching in middle (Years 6 to 9) and senior (Years 10 to 12) years in school settings.
