Program Code: 8660
Commencement: Semester 1 (March) or Semester 2 (July)
Program Duration: 1.5 years

Estimated Annual Tuition Fees: A$24,480

Program Description

The Master of Biomedical Engineering is designed to cater for students with either a medical/biological science or engineering/physical science background. Initially, students with a medical/biological science background study basic engineering courses such as mathematics, mechanics,
electronics and computing, whilst students with a non-medical background take courses in physiology, anatomy, pathology and biochemistry. Later, both groups choose electives from biomechanics, biophysics, biomaterials, medical instrumentation and mass transfer in medicine, as well as undertaking an optional research project.

Entry Requirements

A recognised four-year Bachelor degree with an average of 65% in performance over the final two years, and with a background of study in either medical/biological science or engineering/physical science.

Program Structure

The program consists of courses totalling 72 units of credit (UOC) of which a minimum of 48 UOC must be from courses offered by the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering (i.e. any courses with a BIOM9 prefix). The remaining 24 UOC can be at graduate or undergraduate level and can be selected from courses offered by GSBME or other Schools of the University.
Strand A courses are directed to candidates with an engineering/ physical sciences background and Strand B to those with a medical/ biological sciences background. Selection of courses is not limited to those listed below and relevant courses from other areas may be undertaken subject to the approval of the Head of School. Students should note that the School is currently reviewing the Strand A and B offerings and not all courses listed may be taught in subsequent years.
