Program Code: 5560 Commencement: Semester 1 (March) only Program Duration: 1 year Estimated Annual Tuition Fees: A$18,720 Program DescriptionThis program is designed to give professional secondary school level teacher training to graduate students, and is recognised as a teaching qualification in both government and non-government schools in New South Wales and in most other states in Australia. It is also widely accepted overseas as a teaching qualification. Prospective students should, however, check their eligibility for employment with the relevant authority in their country of residence. Entry RequirementsThe Diploma in Education is available to graduates of approved universities where their previous studies meet entry prerequisites for their selected teaching specialisation/s. These prerequisites are normally at least three years of study in their main teaching discipline. Program StructureThe program requires students to study in each of two single teaching areas (method courses) or in one double teaching (method) course. The methods cover the curriculum and instructional material for the Australian High School Years 7 to 12. Students must meet entry prerequisites to undertake their preferred teaching method/s. Those studying double method courses must have completed two years of prior study in the second teaching discipline. Single Method Courses Most single method course combinations are permissible but not all method courses may be available in any given year. English Method French Method Drama Method German Method Literacy/ESL Method (English as a Second Language) History Method Spanish Method Geography Method Chinese Method Business Studies and Economics Method Japanese Method Computing Studies Method Junior HSIE Method (Human Society and Its Environment) Double Method Courses English Method History Method Mathematics Method Science Method Other Courses The following three courses must also be undertaken regardless of the teaching methods studied. An additional two education electives are also required.
