It is especially relevant to systems where the software is used to control interaction between a computer-based system and the real world. There is a flexible common fi rst year for all BE degrees in the Faculty of Engineering except Software Engineering and Bioinformatics. This will allow students to select electives in first year and later years of the program. A typical program sequence is shown below: Program StructureYEAR 1 Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Computing, Engineering Design and electives including: Electrical & Telecommunications Engineering, Data Structures & Algorithms, Physics YEAR 2 Mathematics, Electrical and Telecommunications Engineering, Physics, Microprocessors, Engineering Design, Digital Circuits and Systems, General Education YEAR 3 Operating Systems, Circuits & Signals, Design Project, Analog Electronics, Electives, General Education YEAR 4 (only from 2009 onwards) Design Project, Electives, Software Project Management, Thesis Career OpportunitiesComputer Engineering graduates are ideally suited to jobs involving the development of hardware/software systems for communications, electronics or process control, and work in such diverse industries as telecommunications, power, defence, or even poker machines! Professional RecognitionThis degree is accredited with the Institution of Engineers, Australia. Substantial or complete recognition is also accorded by overseas engineering institutions. In addition, graduates are eligible for membership of the Australian Computer Society.
