Program code: 3040 Faculty: Engineering Min. years: 4 years UOC (per year/total): 48/192 Semester 2 entry: Yes* Est. first year tuition $24,960 est.fee to complete $111,280 assumed knowledge Maths, Physics and Chemistry What is Chemical Engineering?Chemical Engineering bridges the study of the chemical and physical sciences with engineering. It involves the operation and optimisation of chemical processes and creates the devices and industrial plants related to chemical, biological, and environmental processes. There is a flexible common first year for all BE degrees in the Faculty of Engineering except Software Engineering and Bioinformatics. This will allow students to select electives in first year and later years of the program. A typical program sequence is shown below: Program StructureYEAR 1 Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Computing, Engineering Design, and electives including: Engineering Materials and Chemistry, Sustainable Product Engineering Design, Engineering Chemistry YEAR 2 Engineering Mathematics, Chemical Engineering Design , Numerical Methods and Statistics, Chemical Engineering Applications, Engineering Chemistry, Chemical Engineering Fundamentals, General Education YEAR 3 Chemical Engineering Fundamentals, Chemical Engineering Applications, Environmental Management, Sustainability and Change, Industrial Chemistry for Chemical Engineers, Chemical Engineering Design, Chemical Engineering Laboratory YEAR 4 (only from 2009 onwards) Chemical Engineering Design, Chemical Engineering Laboratory, Professional Elective, General Education, Thesis Career OpportunitiesChemical engineers design and operate large-scale chemical process equipment and factories safely, effi ciently and in an environmentally responsible manner. They produce a diverse range of materials from fuels and circuitboards to processed foods, life-saving pharmaceuticals and filtered clean water. They also develop alternative energy sources —alcohol from crops and effi cient ways to utilise solar energy etc. Professional RecognitionThis degree program is accredited by the Institution of Chemical Engineers, the Institution of Engineers, Australia, and the Royal Australian Chemical Institute.
