This combined four year degree is designed for students intending to pursue careers in teaching either in schools or other public and private institutions such as museums, media outlets or education centres. It requires completion of an approved major in the BSc program, corresponding to one of the HSC Science teaching disciplines – Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences or Earth and Environmental Sciences. It also requires at least two semesters at Level 1 in a second science teaching discipline other than the Major and at least two semesters at Level 1 in either Chemistry or Physics. Students must also undertake at least one semester at Level 1 in each of the main teaching disciplines: Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences or Earth and Environmental Sciences. Additionally Education Theory courses are commenced in the first year (two courses), with an additional theory course in second year. In third year, practice teaching is done along with a teaching method course. In fourth year, a full complement of teaching method, practice teaching, professional courses and two educational theory courses are completed.
Professional RecognitionThe BSc BEd award is recognised by the NSW Department of Education and Training and in most other states in Australia. International students should check with the employing authority in their home country regarding their eligibility for a teaching position
