These product areas are as diverse as telephones and cranes, gas fires and exhibition systems, toothbrushes and motor cars. The industrial designer often works as part of a team, involving engineering, production and marketing. Program Description The Bachelor of Industrial Design (BIndDes) at the FBE encourages user-centred design. Its multidisciplinary edge, human-centered approach and holistic view of the product development places the BindDes program at the very forefront of industrial design education in Australia. The program addresses requirements relating to the environments of use, marketing, manufacturing technology, engineering, ergonomics and environmental sustainability. Students progressively expand and refine their creative and professional abilities. Their vocational, technical and communication skills develop within a framework of rigorous critical analysis and research. The BindDes program develops a thorough understanding of design principles and practice through coursework, design projects and industry sponsorships. Courses in commerce, marketing, maths, technology and general education allows students to gain experience in a range of disciplines across the university. This multidisciplinary approach ensures that each student develops the critical analytical and professional techniques necessary to apply the knowledge they have gained to an almost limitless number of design related challenges that they are faced with when engaged as an industrial designer.
