COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is structured to meet the needs of teachers or other professionals who wish to pursue education studies in their field of interest. It is a pathway to further studies in education rather than an initial teaching qualification. It provides an outstanding opportunity for students to become familiar with pedagogical and cultural aspects of education in Australia. It also provides sound foundation studies in education for those wishing to progress to the Graduate Diploma in Education (Primary) which qualifies graduates to teach in schools. For those with appropriate prior qualifications, the degree also serves as a means of entry to Masters' courses in Education.

There are no core units in the course. With the assistance of a course adviser, students enrol in a total of 120 credit points of study and select 15 or 20 credit point units in their area of interest from the listing available in the Faculty of Education.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
IELTS (Academic) - minimum overall band score of 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or

TOEFL Computer-Based Test - A minimum score of 233 with a score of 5 in essay writing; or

TOEFL Paper-based Test - A minimum score of 575 with a score of 5 or more in the test of Written English; or

TOEFL Internet-based Test - A minimum score of 96 with no individual score less than 24; or

Completion of the English for Further Studies Advanced Stage 5B certificate at PG (postgraduate) level available from the La Trobe University Language Centre; or

Approved equivalent.
 
ACADEMIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
An Australian Bachelor's degree or relevant two-year full-time diploma or advanced diploma, or approved international equivalent.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
This degree is a pathway to a teaching qualification.
 
PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION
Graduates with three years of approved training in primary teaching are eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching. Overseas applicants should check with their home accreditation authorities.
