Why choose this program?
This integrated degree program will enable you to gain in-depth physical, biological, and medical knowledge, coupled with a knowledge of behavioural science and physiotherapy. You will learn the skills and attitudes necessary for clinical practice, and develop an understanding of ethical principles, professional and legal responsibilities, and the promotion and maintenance of overall health.
To satisfy international physiotherapy requirements, you will participate in a minimum of 1000 hours of supervised clinical learning in public and private hospitals, community health centres, nursing homes, hostels and other appropriate venues.
This program has an Honours stream that may be undertaken in Years 4 and 5 of the program.
Motion analysis, risk factors and rehabilitation applications are studied in the state-of-the-art biomechanics lab.
Attendance
The Bachelor of Physiotherapy / Bachelor of Exercise Science program is offered full-time on campus at the Gold Coast campus.
As a full-time student, you will generally attend 18 - 23 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the semester. Classes may be scheduled during the day and evening throughout the week.
In the Bachelor of Physiotherapy / Bachelor of Exercise Science, you must maintain a full-time study load. If you have reasons why you cannot maintain enrolment in all notified credit points per semester, you must seek approval from the Program Convenor to take a reduced study load.
To accommodate clinical placements during Bachelor of Physiotherapy / Bachelor of Exercise Science (especially from Year 3 onwards) students may be required to start and end semesters, and have vacation periods outside of the normal university academic periods.
Placements
In Bachelor of Physiotherapy / Bachelor of Exercise Science clinical placements will take place generally at the end or after the bulk of course work has been completed each Semester. You are required to undertake unpaid clinical placements which require full-time attendance at a negotiated practice location on multiple occasions. Some placements will be outside of the Gold Coast area and may occur in the Brisbane metropolitan area, other parts of Queensland, interstate (optional / negotiable) or overseas (optional / negotiable).
The Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) / Bachelor of Exercise Science
The Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) / Bachelor of Exercise Science is offered full-time only on campus at the Gold Coast campus and is embedded within the final two years of the substantive Bachelor of Physiotherapy / Bachelor of Exercise Science program.
In the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) / Bachelor of Exercise Science you must maintain a full-time study load. If you have reasons why you cannot maintain enrolment in 43 credit points per semester, you must seek approval from the Program Convenor to take a reduced study load.
Students enrolling in the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) / Bachelor of Exercise Science are required to complete coursework and a dissertation.
Coursework
You are required to attend approximately 18 - 23 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the semester . Classes may be held during the day and evening.
Dissertation
During your enrolment in the dissertation component of this program, it is expected that you will be able to work independently for most of the time. The requirement for on-campus attendance is relatively flexible and unstructured. However, you will be required to meet regularly with your supervisor/s and it is recommended that you discuss the on-campus attendance requirements with your supervisor at the start of the dissertation.

In Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) / Bachelor of Exercise Science clinical placements will take place generally at the end or after the bulk of course work has been completed each Semester. As a graduate, you will be eligible for registration as a physiotherapist in Queensland and, through mutual recognition, be eligible for registration in the other states of Australia.
