Strongly linked to industry needs, this unique program will enable you to develop knowledge and skills within the broad field of the theatre arts and equip you for a variety of careers within the arts and entertainment sphere. Your studies will include the following:
- creating, performing and participating in theatre
- knowing and using theatre forms and technologies
- responding to and analysing works of theatre
- understanding cultural dimensions and the contribution of theatre
- gaining a critical understanding of the industry and its growing needs
In Years 1 and 2, you will complete the core courses and the advanced core courses will be completed in Year 3. Major studies are also undertaken from Year 1 onwards.
Theatre major
Completion of eight courses is compulsory for the Theatre major. The completion of an additional six courses will give you a double major in Theatre.
As an alternative to a double major in Theatre, you may take a second major from the following list:

Attendance
The Bachelor of Arts in Applied Theatre is offered full-time on campus at the Mt Gravatt campus.
As a full-time student you will generally attend 10-15 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the semester. Classes may be scheduled during the day and evening throughout the week. At times when course-related theatre productions are scheduled, you will also be required to rehearse more intensely and to perform in the evenings during the performance week.
Students may take a reduced study load. You will be classed as a part-time student if you enrol in less than 30 credit points per semester. This may affect entitlement to Centrelink benefits. International students must maintain a full-time study load.
Work-integrated learning activities integrate theoretical learning with its application in the workplace. The inclusion of work-integrated learning activities in the degree program demonstrates Griffith's commitment to preparing its graduates for success in their working life. In this program you will complete 20 days or one hundred hours in a work/professional environment through an Industry Practicum. You are required to undertake the unpaid Industry Practicum at a practice location on one occasion. Some placements may be outside of the Brisbane metropolitan area/Gold Coast area, interstate or overseas.
If you enrol in this program, you will be expected to finance your transportation/flights, accommodation, meals and any other expenses resulting from your participation in this Practicum.

You will have the ability to apply these talents in a variety of fields including arts and leisure management and policy, community education, dialogue, performance and audience management, theatre and screen production, performing and directing as well as youth and community leadership.
