In Year 1, your studies consist of a design and theory foundation, focusing on the development of ideas and problem-solving techniques. You can choose one of the above studio majors. This first year focuses on core industry-related activities and projects.
In Years 2 and 3, you will continuing with your core industry-related activities and projects, undertake an independent project and professional studies and also prepare a professional folio ready for employment or for admission to the Bachelor of Design with Honours program (conditional upon attaining of a grade point average of 5.0 or above). You can also undertake a 60 credit point (CP) elective major or two 30CP specialisations. This gives you the flexibility to choose a studio major within the program or to choose an elective major or specialisations from other schools or faculties thus broadening your experience in the degree and within the University environment.
Attendance
The Bachelor of Design is offered full-time on campus at the South Bank campus. You may choose to study courses at other campuses if or where the program structure allows.
As a full-time student you will generally attend 14-19 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the semester. Classes may be scheduled during the day and evening throughout the week.
Work experience/placement: In this program you may be required to undertake work experience which requires full-time attendance at a Liveworm Studio QCA, or commercial studios, on one or more occasions. Some placements may be outside of the Brisbane metropolitan area.
Professional recognition
As a graduate, you will be eligible for membership of the Design Institute of Australia after two years of professional practice or after completing the Bachelor of Design with Honours program (offered at South Bank).

Interior Design: This major will give you the skills to handle challenging roles in the retail, hospitality, domestic and commercial sectors which require people with a highly developed understanding of aesthetics, safety and functionality in the design and development of interior spaces and fittings.
Product Design: This major will make you sought after in the design, production and manufacturing sectors, particularly where products, furniture, lighting fixtures, packaging, exhibitions and trade shows, film and television modelling and set design, signage and environmental graphics are required.
Visual Communication Design: This major will equip you for a stimulating career in the visual design industries including print and corporate design, publishing and packaging, advertising and marketing, television and digital media.
