Why choose this course?
We all have a favourite movie or television moment. But what makes this moment so special to us? Our senses are in overload with the combination of the visual, music, sound effects and dialogue. We're along for the ride, wherever the story takes us next.

Career outcomes
Graduates can work in film and television in numerous entry level positions that lead to careers as cinematographers, vision and sound editors, directors, scriptwriters and producers. You may also work in the production of multimedia audio and video materials for advertising, public relations, marketing, staff training or the Internet.

Practical teaching
You will be industry ready through practical experience in a range of areas. You'll gain experience in working with other students to produce creative works for external clients.

You will be encouraged to explore a range of genres from documentary, television formats, drama and experimental film.

Industry links
QUT Creative Industries is proud to have supported the Queensland New Filmmakers Awards for many years. QUT lecturer Helen Yeates initiated the awards to nurture up-and-coming talent in the local film scene.

Course structure
QUT's film and screen production course is for those who are driven to tell their stories through creative practice in the film, television, or new media industries. Opportunities are available to specialise in producing, directing, scriptwriting, cinematography, editing or sound.

There is an emphasis on creating quality content for a range of applications.

Facilities and technology
You will work with industry standard equipment and learn techniques for digital and film outputs. Advanced classes are conducted in dedicated production studios, culminating in Super 16 film production. QUT was Australia's first official AVID partner, so our staff have up-to-date skills and knowledge of this leading-edge technology.

What our students say
2006 graduates Tom Noakes, Lucy Gaffy and Will Goodfellow are establishing themselves as faces for the future, following successful collaboration on final year projects at QUT.

Their graduation films The Majestic, Julian and Stray won many major awards at the 2007 Queensland New Filmmaker Awards, including Best Overall Film, Most Popular Film, Best Tertiary Documentary, Best Producer, Excellence in Editing and Most Original Script. Lucy was honoured as the Best New Female Filmmaker.

The Majestic also screened at the 2007 St Kilda Film Festival, where Lucy and Will attended special events and met established filmmakers and mentors.

After spending 2007 working on feature films, music videos and TV ads, Tom, Lucy and Will are refining their skills in the highly coveted postgraduate course at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School.

Additional Entry Requirements
Applicants are selected on the basis of their portfolio, interview and previous academic achievement.
