Students learn to maintain a laboratory, conduct routine sampling and testing, recording data and using laboratory computing programs. Program Components & Pathway This program can include multiple courses and different entry and exit points providing students the flexibility to begin at the most suitable stage and continue studying till they reach their desired outcome. Please see the study pathway diagram below.  General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites Entry at Certificate IV level requires the equivalent of Australian Year 12 with passes in English, Maths & Science or you can commence with the Certificate III in Laboratory Skills. For Yr 10-11 and Yr 12 academic equivalence, please refer to the Entry Requirements Summary for your relevant country. This also details the normal English proficiency standard needed. What You'll Learn in Each Course The Certificate III provides students with the training to assist in collecting and preparing samples and to carry out, measure and record results of experiments in the physical, chemical, biological or life sciences. Students learn skills in maintaining a laboratory, routine sampling and testing, recording data, and using laboratory computing programs. They also learn how to prepare cultures, perform sterile techniques and assist with field work. The Certificate IV develops the skills to collect and prepare samples, carry out experiments, take measurements with scientific equipment, record results, and present results for critical analysis. Students learn skills in quality control, performing instrumental and non-instrumental tests, preparing, standardising, and using solutions. The Diploma allows students to obtain specific training in a diverse range of industries including chemical, medical, pathological, mining, biological, and environmental fields. They also learn skills to process data and maintain accurate records, participate in total quality control management, develop, organise and utilise resources efficiently, and communicate with technical, scientific and other personnel Career Outcomes Depending on the stage of completion, graduates can become Laboratory Assistants, Technical Assistants or work in other laboratory support functions. With experience, they can obtain jobs as Laboratory Technicians or Technical/Field Officers. Further Study & University Options Diploma graduates can continue studies in a range of science degrees at Edith Cowan, Murdoch, Curtin or UWA.
