In Regional W.A. - Albany offers the Cert III & Cert IV and Margaret River offers the Diploma. | | College(s): | Central, West Coast, Swan, Great Southern, South West Regional | | Approximate Tuition Costs: | A$4,750 per semester or A$9,500 per year | | Commencement/Intake Availability: | Joondalup has a February and July intake; all other campuses have Feb intakes only | | University Entry Available? | Graduates of the Diploma at West Coast (Joondalup) will be able to enter a Bachelor of Science, Communications or Computer Technology at Edith Cowan university.* | University Credit Possible? | Up to 8 units of credit is available at Edith Cowan.* | | Other Info: | Students will have access to computer labs during class but access to their own personal computer at home is highly recommended. | Provides students with the skills and knowledge to manipulate graphic images, animations, sound, text and video into a multimedia program. The course uses industry standard software including adobe photoshop, 3D Digital modelling using Lightwave 3D, programming coding using Visual Basic, web page development using XHTML, CSS and Macromedia Dreamweaver, Multimedia authoring using Lingo and Macromedia Director and art and text manipulation using Macromedia Freehand. Students will also complete a multimedia project as part of the course. Qualifications Available in this Program (depending on your entry & exit points) - Certificate III in Multimedia

Program Components & Pathway This program can include multiple courses and different entry and exit points providing students the flexibility to begin at the most suitable stage and continue studying till they reach their desired outcome. Please see the study pathway diagram below.  General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites Entry into the Certificate III requires the equivalent of Australian Year 11 with passes in English or completion of the Cert III in Design Fundamentals. For Yr 10-11 and Yr 12 academic equivalence, please refer to the Entry Requirements Summary for your relevant country. This also details the normal English proficiency standard needed. What You'll Learn in Each Course In the Certificate III, students will learn skills in advanced computing applications, how to assist with the production of graphics, producing and updating basic web pages and producing 2D animations. Software used includes: Visual Design skills using Adobe PhotoShop; 2D Digital animation using Macromedia Flash; Digital Video and Editing skills using Adobe Premier; Multimedia Authoring skills using Macromedia Director; Web Page development using Macromedia Dreamweaver; Digital Audio editing skills using Adobe Premiere. In the Certificate IV, students will learn skills to produce graphics and animation, manage multimedia assets and author multimedia material Software used includes: Digital Photography and image editing using Adobe PhotoShop; 3D Digital Modelling using Lightwave 3D; Programming concepts and coding using Visual Basic .NET; Web page development, creation and validation using XHTML, CSS and Macromedia Dreamweaver; Multimedia Authoring and development skills using Lingo and Macromedia Director; Vector art and text manipulation using Macromedia Freehand. In the Diploma, students will learn skills in the development of complex colour visual graphics and creative thought generation. The Diploma course covers more advanced animation, graphics, scripting, video and 3D design skills. Students will also develop a multimedia product of their choosing incorporating the skills that they have obtained including: Interface Design using PhotoShop; Scripting using Javascript; Scripting using PHP; Database access using MySQL; Video editing using Adobe Premier; 3D digital animation using Lightwave 3D; Key frame animation using Macromedia Director and Adobe Premier. Students will also create a multimedia product promo to cover navigation, platform compatibility and testing skills. Career Outcomes Depending on the stage of completion, graduates can obtain jobs in the multimedia & website design industry and ultimately become a web site designer/manager, multimedia project technician/manager and computer based graphic/business presentation designer. Further Study & University Options Graduates of the Diploma at West Coast TAFE (Joondalup) can enter the Bachelor of Science (Digital Media) or Bachelor of Communications (Interactive Multimedia or Film & Video or Photo media or Media Studies or Advertising or Journalism or Public Relations or Mass Communication) or Bachelor of Computer Technology at Edith Cowan University (ECU) with credit of up to 8 units. The exact credit will depend on the units taken at TAFE and the ECU degree chosen. Graduates of other Colleges may be able to continue in further studies at university in related subjects.
