| Provides students with the practical skills and knowledge in video and film production. The college has its own film studio so the students can learn practical skills in camera operations, digital sound editing, program production, copywriting and production management. The students also have the opportunity to specialise in the following streams: directing, camera, editing, production design, sound, producer.

This program can include multiple courses and different entry and exit points providing students the flexibility to begin at the most suitable stage and continue studying till they reach their desired outcome. Please see the study pathway diagram below.
General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites
Entry into the Certificate III - Advanced Diploma in Screen requires the equivalent of Australian Year 12 with passes in English or completion of the Certificate III in Design Fundamentals.
For Yr 10-11 and Yr 12 academic equivalence, please refer to the Entry Requirements Summary for your relevant country. This also details the normal English proficiency standard needed.
Special Entry Requirements
Entry into the Cert III - Advanced Diploma in Screen requires submission of a folio. Note: Courses requiring folios for entry need to be applied for at least several weeks earlier than normal.
What You'll Learn in Each Course
The Certificate III provides students with the practical skills and knowledge to assist with video production. They will learn skills to operate a video camera, record and mix sound, operate non linear editing systems and create 2D animation along with research and scriptwriting.
The Certificate IV provides the practical skills and knowledge to assist in the production and post production of film and television programs. Students learn about the Australian film and television industry along with skills in camera operations in a studio and on outside broadcasts, digital sound editing, program production, copywriting and production management.
The Diploma provides the practical skills and knowledge to work in the production and post production of film and television programs. Students further develop skills in camera operations, lighting, audio production, script writing and producing. They practice the skills learnt by working as part of a team to produce music videos, 16mm short films and documentaries.
The Advanced Diploma provides students with the opportunity to major in one of the following specialist streams; Directing, Camera, Editing, Production Design, Sound or Producing. Students obtain the skills to direct the overall production of film and television productions. They will work with other students on 16mm short films as a director. They will also learn how to devise camera coverage, direct crew and performers and collaborate with the editor to realise their vision on film. Industry mentors are used extensively throughout pre production, production and post production.
Career Outcomes
Depending on the stage of completion, graduates can gain employment as an assistant editor, production assistant, camera operator, vision mixer, editor, set designer, sound director or producer in the film, video or television industry.
Further Study & University Options
Studies at TAFE WA can be continued through to the Advanced Diploma level (see the Study Pathway diagram above). Successful completion of the Advanced Diploma may provide students with credit at University in related fields of study.
